The hare pattern comes from a large 35 cm cut, discovered in northern Syria and exhibited at the museum of Palmyra. Incised and enhanced with colored glazes, the decor is dated from the 11th or 13th century according to studies: it would be the first expression of this technique known to date.

The carnation motif is one of the most represented in ceramics from the workshops of the Huveaune valley (Aubagne-en-Provence, Auriol, Saint Zacharie) between the 16th and 18th centuries. Its history is astonishing. This decor comes from a 16th century Turkish earthenware model, itself inspired by Persian ceramics. It was copied by the potters of Pisa who flooded our region. In the face of competition, the model was replicated in Aubagne, often with a mastery and talent superior to their Italian rivals

The fish decor is a reproduction of a 16th century monochrome, adorning a large cup discovered in the wreck of «la Lomellina», sunk by the storm in 1516 off Villefranche-sur-mer.

The motifs: bird, anemone, carnation come from the workshops of the valley of Huveaune (Aubagne-en-Provence, Auriol, Saint Zacharie), in which it was often interpreted between the 16th and 18th centuries, in polychrome version with copper and red engobe.
